However, there is more to it than meets the eye. Hedron Bulb is a sculpture with a mission: to leave no footprint, with no remnant of what was, only that which can become something else. The artist considered all aspects of its energy usage and materials in designing and constructing the work. It uses low light to conserve energy and avoid overwhelming photography of the views beyond; almost nothing is glued, drilled or permanently fixed, such that the sculpture can be assembled
and dismantled like Lego, using a deceptively simple pattern.
Check it out on the boardwalk on the eastern side of Circular Quay for the duration of Vivid.
We are proud to support HBT's new fundraising campaign - Tradies Supporting Ladies - raising funds for the McGrath Foundations rural Breast Care Nurse program, which supports Breast Care Nurses in rural and regional Australia.
We have fundraising boxes in store. and will give a 'Tradies Supporting Ladies' T-shirt to the first 80 donations over $10 (just make sure you grab one of our staff to see you put the $$ in the box!)
We also hope to run a few fundraising initiatives/events over the coming months to help with this cause - stay tuned for more info on this.
Boy did we pick a great year to jump on board to sponsor the Mascot Juniors U11’s White Team – founded in 1910 Mascot JRLFC is widely acknowledged as the oldest Junior League Club in Australia and is renowned for winning more Club Championships and Premierships than any other club and is feeder club to the South Sydney Rugby Club – looks like we may well have just sponsored a couple of future Rugby legends!
In 2013 we gave Newtown Public School a donation credit to our store and they have been using this money to purchase all the supplies they need to build their No-Dig Garden.
The project is being led by Fiona, a local resident & friend of the school. She has been working twice a week with the students to build this garden up from what was a dirt patch and a weedy wall (a before shot to come soon).
We visited last week to check out their progress and the results are magnificent - a luscious garden having yielded cucumbers, beans, sunflowers many a herb and even strawberries so far!
We are currently looking for schools to join our special ongoing fundraising scheme. Once signed up when the parents & friends spend money in our stores and notify us who they are we will credit that school’s account 5% of the purchase spend. This account can then be drawn upon as credit in store, used as gift vouchers for fundraising or simply deposited into the schools account as a donation on a regular basis.
If you think your school could benefit from this scheme please pass this information to their relevant fundraising representative.
